Time to Take Action!

Virginia Midwives for Safe Community Birth is excited to announce we now have two bills being considered during the 2023 legislative session! On January 18th, we will be Marching to Richmond to visit with legislators and let them know why we want their vote for our bills. Let us know you'll be there! The night before, we are hosting a Town Hall where we'll go over the plan for the day. We have materials you can share with your legislators when you meet with them, so if the idea of going to visit your legislator is a bit daunting, have no fear. We've got your back!

Delegates Dawn Adams and Kaye Kory are the primary patrons for our House Bill (HB 1511). Delegates Nadarius Clark, Wendy Gooditis, and Michelle Maldonado are co-patrons for our House Bill. Senator Siobhan Dunnavant is the primary patron for our Senate Bill (SB 1275). Senator Dunnavant is an OBGYN and we are thrilled to have her support on this important Senate Bill.

What can you do to help?

  • Contact your legislator and let them know we need their vote to empower Virginia Licensed Midwives to practice to their full scope and have legal access to the medications that make community birth safer. Don't know who your legislators are? Find your legislator here!

  • Don't know what to say? Here is a template letter you can use to send to your Delegate, asking for their support for HB 1511.

  • And, here is a template letter to send to your Senator, asking for their support for SB 1275.
